Dr. Rachel Staples DMD
General Dentist / Owner
Rachel was born and raised in Victoria and was thrilled to return to her hometown in 1995 – after completing her dental degree at the University of British Columbia – to start her practice and raise her family.
A life-long learner, Rachel embarked on a journey of further training and hands-on learning in 2007. She attended and completed all seven core levels of neuromuscular dentistry at the prestigious LVI Global in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she is currently a fellow. Rachel believes in integrating comprehensive diagnosis and contemporary techniques with the latest technologies. With this philosophy, her goal is to improve the lives of her patients and to bring beautiful smiles to all who visit her office.
Dr Jade Haxton
Dentist
Dr. Jade Haxton is an associate dentist here at Urban Smiles Colwood. From a young age, Jade has been captivated by the field of dentistry. Her interest was first ignited during a memorable experience as a teenager, when her orthodontist used models of her jaws and teeth to teach a lecture to dental students—an event that made her feel like a bit of a celebrity and solidified her passion for oral health. With a clear goal in mind, she dedicated her high school and undergraduate years to preparing for a future in dentistry, eventually travelling to Australia to earn her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Sydney.
Heather
Office Manager
Heather has lived in Victoria for +30 years. She moved to Victoria from Regina, Sask. to go to Camosun College and graduated as a Certificate Dental Assistant. Heather soon started working in the Administration side of dentistry and found her place at the front desk. She has worked at many offices in Victoria and brought her smile and skills to Urban Smiles Colwood in January of 2024!
When Heather is not working you will find her spending time with her family – her husband Ed and their Pomsky dog Legend. Together they have a love of time spent with friends and family, building memories to last while they enjoy camping, fishing and gardening.

Dental Hygienist
Hi, I’m Sarah! I’m a dental hygienist who is passionate about connecting with patients and helping them to have positive dental experiences. I love making people feel great about their oral health! Outside of work, you can find me running/hiking with my dog, Nala, spending time with family and friends, exploring new places and getting creative with my love of interior design.
Maureen
Dental Hygienist
Maureen is a registered dental hygienist. She completed a Bachelor of Dental Science in Dental Hygiene at the University of British Columbia in 2012. Growing up in Victoria Maureen dreamed of travelling the world. After high school she moved to Toronto and completed the Diploma of Dental Hygiene Program at George Brown College. For the next 13 years Maureen travelled the world, living and practising dentistry on 4 continents. Passionate about education and learning she was a clinical instructor at UBC for 4 years. Working with geriatric patients and patient education are areas of special interest. Maureen has participated in volunteer cleft palate/cleft lip missions in China and Vietnam. When not working at Urban Smiles Maureen enjoys hiking, exploring the Cowichan Valley and spending time with pets Shetland Sheltie Torie and Abyssinian Haliday.

Social Media Coordinator & Content Creator
Victoria is a Certified Dental Assistant with a strong commitment to patient care and comfort. Victoria graduated from Vancouver Island University as a Certified Dental Assistant in 2023.
Victoria is the creative force behind our online presence, bringing smiles to our digital community just like we do in the office. With a background in dentistry, she crafts engaging and relatable content that educates, entertains, and connects with our patients and other dental professionals. Victoria ensures our practice stays visible, trusted, and relatable across all platforms.
Outside of the office, Victoria enjoys hiking, crocheting, and spending her time with friends and family, bringing the same warmth and dedication to all aspects of life.
Maddie
Anxiety Support & Dogtor
Maddy is Dr Staples 5 year old Australian Labradoodle. She is hypoallergenic and non-shedding. She is an empathy dog in training and will stand or sit beside anxious patients during local analgesic injections. She loves the attention and will help distract and soothe your injection fears away. She can be seen when you come in for your Hygiene Recalls to greet you and make sure you are comfortable. Feel free to ask for her anytime. She is happy to oblige. Most other times you will find her curled up on her bed with her favorite orange ball.
